‘Warmest wishes’ from the provost

Christmas lights against a dark sky. Splashes of colour along the High Street. Looking back on the year 2012, the one without the warmth and brightness of summer, it’s easy to think of it as a monochrome year without high points!

Yet the Common-Riding events, the Hawick Torch and the Big Parade (oh, and the Olympics), the marriage of Barrie and Chanel, the Scottish Parliament’s visit to the town, and the plans for Wilton Lodge Park shine as bright lights in that year gone by.

And so we look ahead, perhaps not as confidently as we once would, but with faith in our town.

We will continue to be proud of that label ‘Made in Hawick’ which reflects the skills of the workforce, and the town will still thrive as long as we have individuals, groups and businesses with commitment to Hawick and to the community, such as that shown by those who delivered the ‘bright lights’ above.

Very warmest wishes go to everyone, with hopes for your health, for an income which meets your needs, and for your happiness in 2013. Let’s all look forward to warmth, to colour, and to a new year.
