Hawick Volunteer Flood Group has been monitoring river levels “very carefully” today (Tuesday).
That’s according to Stuart Marshall, the group’s chairman, who also said there were concerns over the possibility of another flood around lunchtime, but these fears proved unfounded.
He added: “River levels are currently sitting at 2.4 metres. The alarm goes at 2.5 metres but I’m hoping that we get a dry spell for a few hours.
“I’ve taken a few calls from anxious residents in the Mansfield Road area, and all our radios are fully charged and we’ve got everyone on standby over the next few days.
“I can only hope that we can manage to get Christmas and Boxing Day out of the way.”
