Councillors Zandra Elliot and George Turnbull will stand again as candidates for Hawick & Denholm and Hawick & Hermitage respectively.

Both will be seeking re-election in May on behalf of the Scottish Conservative party.

John Lamont, local MSP and government campaign manager for the Tories, welcomed the news that Elliot and Turnbull would be standing again.

He said: “Both George and Zandra are dedicated and hard-working individuals who are willing to do whatever it takes to fight for the people of Hawick on the issues that matter most to them.

Councillor Elliot was elected to local government in 2007 and is looking to continue the “invigorating” challenge of representing her local area.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a councillor over the last five years dealing with and hopefully resolving the many concerns and issues about which my constituents have cared. It has been a tough but invigorating challenge and if re-elected I will continue to listen to the voices of local residents and ensure that their views are represented on the council.”

Councillor Turnbull will look to reclaim the Hawick & Hermitage seat and insists his experience in the role can serve local people effectively.

“I know exactly what it takes to fight for your constituents on the issues that matter to them. If re-elected I will continue to work hard for those in Hawick and Newcastleton to ensure they get the most out of their council.

“I am extremely proud of what the Scottish Conservative Group has achieved on the council over the last five years.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being a councillor for these past years and I would be honoured if those in Hawick and Newcastleton gave me the opportunity to represent them again.”
