A THIEF stole a rugby player’s holdall with £157 worth of kit in it, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.

The kit bag was put on the bus by a player travelling back from Edinburgh to Hawick.

But when he went to retrieve the holdall he found it was gone.

A CCTV check showed 38-year-old Craig leaving the bus at Wilton Hill with the holdall.

Craig also admitted a charge of being found with £7 worth of cannabis at his home in Anderson Place on March 9.

Defence lawyer Rory Bannerman said he appreciated his client “was walking the thinnest of tight topes”.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond deferred sentence until August 31 when Craig has other matters calling and background reports are being prepared for that date.
