Text messages help to catch teenage drug supplier

Mobile phone messages showed a teenager was involved in supplying illegal drugs to friends.

Eighteen-year-old Alyxs Millar, of Hillend Drive, appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court where he admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis resin in Fairhurst Drive on May 1 last year.

Procurator fiscal Morag McLintock told how a police search revealed a “tick list and mobile phone texts indicating the supply of drugs”.

They also found about six grammes of cannabis resin.

Solicitor Rory Bannerman, defending, described the amount of illegal drugs found as “fairly small.

“His phone showed his involvement with some friends, passing cannabis on to acquaintances.”

Mr Bannerman said the offence had happened some 15 months ago, and Millar was “motivated to remain offence free”.

Sheriff Donald Corke sentenced Millar to 144 hours’ community service, warning him: “It is a serious matter to supply drugs, even if you are only passing it on to friends.”
