TWO young Hawick volunteersupport workers have reached the national finals of the 2011 Adult Learners’ Awards.
Kati Vert and Nikita James, along with Leonie Brannan, from Kelso, were nominated for successfully taking part in a Peer Support Worker Training and Pilot Participation project which ran from December 2009 to May 2010.
The pilot aimed to provide them with a role in contributing to the development of a new peer support service for care leavers named by the group as Breakaway Peer Mentoring for Care Leavers. This included training as peer supporters and offering support to young care leavers moving into Albert Place, the joint SBC and Scottish Borders Housing Association supported accommodation project.
The finals will be held in Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel on Wednesday as part of the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of Adult Learners’ Week.
