Team Teribus prepares for four-pronged extreme challenge in aid of good causes

A SQUAD of eight local lads is preparing to plunge through mud in the dark, climb the country’s three highest mountains and run into the heart of Glencoe, all in the name of charity.

Team Teribus – who got together last year and successfully completed the worldwide phenomenon Tough Mudder when it was held at Dalkeith – are this year going full throttle in a bid to raise money for local worthy causes, by participating in the Mighty Deerstalker, The National Three Peaks Challenge, Edinburgh Half Marathon, and Glencoe Marathon Gathering.

Comprising Mark Nichol, Ross Nichol, Scott Robson, Cammy Rudkin, Jamie Hetherington, Jamie Scott, Arron Mackenzie and Ryan McGee (pictured from left) the plucky team have been training hard in preparation for their four extreme challenges with a strict regime of cross-country running, road running and gym work. And team leader Jamie Scott, known locally as ‘Ginger’ and a previous winner of I’m a Weel Kent Face, Get Iz Oot O’ Here, says they all feel ready. “We’ve been doing plenty of training and we are all really up for it, and quite optimistic, although what lies ahead of us is definitely going to be tough.”

Their challenges start next month with Rat Race’s Mighty Deerstalker event on March 15 at Traquair House, comprising a 10k route through mud-filled trenches, steep slopes, water crossings and forest trails as darkness descends. They will follow this with the Three Peaks Challenge, also in March, tackling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours, followed by the Edinburgh Half in Septmber and Glencoe Marathon in October.

But with fund-raising for the Margaret Kerr Unit at Borders General Hospital and Cash for Kids to spur them on, Jamie added: “We wanted to raise money for charities that serve the Borders – that’s why we chose the Margaret Kerr Unit which supported the mum of one of the runners and local charity Cash for Kids.”
