Soldier not guilty of two pub assaults

A SERVING soldier has been cleared of two assaults in a pub after a three-day jury trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Scott McQuillin was charged with assaulting James Fojcik to his severe injury and permanent impairment in the Drumlanrig Bar on June 20.

The 35-year-old, based at Dreghorn barracks in Edinburgh, was also accused of assaulting Stuart Sharkey during the same incident.

McQuillin lodged a special defence of self-defence and last Thursday was found not guilty on both charges by the jury.
