A 29-year-old who breached a community service order was jailed for six months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Barry Hayward, of Kenilworth Avenue, was previously sentenced to 12 months’ probation and 120 hours’ community service after a man was chased and attacked in Galashiels.

Hearing Hayward had breached the order, Sheriff Kevin Drummond told him: “The courts try to do what they can to keep people out of custody through community-based sentences, but when people ignore that, the court has a duty to see it is dealt with effectively.”
