Shoplifter ‘went into a fit of rage’

A SHOPLIFTER offered to pay for three bottles of alcohol and tins of food he had stolen from a store.

But when Iceland staff insisted they were calling the police, 20-year-old Peter Borland went into a fit of rage and became aggressive towards them.

He threw a carrier bag against a wall and placed the staff members in a state of fear and alarm.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court, Borland, of Wellfield Road, pleaded guilty to two offences committed on November 13 while the subject of an ASBO.

Sentence was deferred until January 20 so that a psychiatric report requested by the defence could be prepared.
