Scottish Borders Council is continuing to monitor the weather after snow fell across many parts of the region last night (Wednesday).

While there was heavy downfalls in the Hawick and Peebles areas, no roads are currently closed and main routes have been salted and ploughed through the night. However, there will be some travel disruption this morning on minor rural roads. Secondary routes are now being treated.

Three primary schools have been closed this morning: Broughton, Kirkhope and Yarrow

There are also a number of school transport routes cancelled. If a service is not running this morning it will also be cancelled this afternoon.

The amber (be prepared) weather warning for snow for the Borders (apart from the eastern side of the region) is due to come to an end at 11am. However, a yellow (be aware) warning for snow for the whole region is valid until 11.55pm tonight.

Drivers should take extra care, leave more time for their journeys and make sure their vehicle is well maintained.
