ROBERT Charters has taken over at the helm of the Callants Club.

The prominent local businessman succeeded popular townsman Ronnie Nichol as president at the club’s recent annual general meeting.

He told the Hawick News: “I’m looking forward to my year in office. It’s a big honour to be president of the Callants Club.”

Mr Charters, who is managing director of the family-run knitwear business Scott and Charters, was Acting Father in 1991 to Cornet Gary Scott and is a past-president of the 1514 Club. The 58-year-old is married to Helen and has a daughter Joanne, who is married to former Greens coach Stephen Cranston, and a son Jamie.

Also at the club’s AGM, Gerald Adams was appointed vice-president, while Douglas Telfer, Gerard Boles and Ex-Cornet John Hope all became new council members.
