Retired? Borded? Disabled? Or just looking for something to do? If so, get in touch with Hawick Senior Citizens Association who are planning to open a Men’s Shed in the next few weeks.
Mens’ sheds originated in Australia and the aim of a shed is to encourage men of all ages – retired, semi-retired, unemployed, disabled, or just lonely.
Each shed is different and reflects the interests of those who use them.
Some may have equipment for woodwork and joinery; some may have workbenches for upholstery, while others may have bicycle repair, chess sets, a library, or even cookery lessons.
George Brown, Treasurer of the Senior Citizens Association said “I believe this presents a great opportunity for something new in the town.”
One local retiree looking forward to the project is Community Councillor Wilson George. He said “I think the men’s shed will provide both a place to meet, and a place to pursue hobbies and pastimes. I hope it gets the support it deserves.”
A further open meeting for the registration of support will be held in the Evergreen Hall at 7pm on Tuesday.
