Residents deliver petition over antisocial problem

FED-up residents in Drumlan-rig Square are taking their fight to remove antisocial tenants to Scottish Borders Council.

The group has presented local councillor Davie Paterson with a petition demanding action be taken on the homeless unit situated in the area.

The property is rented by the local authority from Scottish Borders Housing Association and is specifically for homeless people. However, Councillor Paterson said the problems associated with the property are becoming intolerable.

He said: “Constituents are telling me that enough is enough and they are sick of the whole street being labelled undesirable because of the actions of those who occupy this house.”

However, a spokesperson for SBC said while they were committed to tackling any nuisance behaviour, very few incidents from Drumlanrig Square had been brought to their attention.

He said: “In the last two years there has been a total of two complaints made to the police, with the most recent being in November this year.

“Officers from the council are committed to resolving this issue and will work with the residents of Drumlanrig Place and the police to find an amicable solution.”
