RESIDENTS living in the Bonchester area are being given the chance to keep in touch with their local policeman via the internet.

The initiative is the brainchild of Newcastleton and Hawick County Community Beat Officer Brian Murray – whose patch covers the rural areas in every direction outside Hawick’s 30s signs – which has already been a hit in Newcastleton and Denholm. Now the local PC (pictured) is offering the scheme to those in and around Bonchester to provide instant contact with the community.

He told the Hawick News: “It can be a two-way thing where I inform the public of incidents, but they also tell me of any suspicious activity. It’s not the busiest beat in the world, but the times the internet has been used it has been very successful.”

Residents can register confidentially for email updates and contact PC Murray on brian.murray@lbp.pnn.police.uk
