Police step up mugger hunt

POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to come forward after an 81-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed last month.

Detective Constable Rory Caverhill said they were still hunting for the culprit and revealed forensics have been sent to a specialist lab in Dundee for DNA testing.

And he said an initiative last Friday night, when cars in the area were stopped, had also proved useful.

The suspect is described as being a white male, aged around 20, slim and between five-and-a-half feet to six feet tall. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood pulled around his face.

DC Caverhill said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries and would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.”
