Police solve 46% of reported crime

A TOTAL of 60 crimes were reported to police during January.

The figures were reported at this week’s community council meeting, at which local PC Keith Murray (pictured) revealed that officers had solved 28 of those recorded – giving the Hawick section a 46 per cent detection rate.

He added: “The levels of recorded dishonesty has remained steady, but minor incidents of vandalism account for more than 40 per cent of recorded crime.”

The community beat officer also warned drivers that officers were continuing to carry out spot checks on local roads, focusing on travelling criminals and the roadworthiness of vehicles.
