Police ready to go walkabout

HAWICK Police Inspector Paula Clark has revealed plans to conduct ‘walkabouts’ round the town with local officials in a bid to identify problem areas.

Speaking at a meeting of Teviot and Liddesdale Area Committee, the police boss, pictured, informed the local councillors that their input in such an initiative would assist with localised problem solving. She added: “We will be looking at areas that are regular concerns.”

The Inspector also reported that during January, the local traffic warden had issued 43 fixed penalty tickets, and dealt out advice to a total of 38 motorists. A total of 13 road accidents were reported to police, with 11 damage only and two resulting in minor injuries.
