Police and Fire services have come together in Newcastleton.

In the first example of its type in Scotland, Police Scotland have a dedicated office within a fire station, where the local community officer and fire and rescue service staff will share facilities.

The move reinstates a police post in Newcastleton, following its closure in 2012.

Chief superintendent Jeanette McDiarmid, commander of the Lothians and Scottish Borders Division of Police Scotland, said:“By working closely with our colleagues in the fire and rescue service we have found a solution that meets the needs of the police but more importantly the needs of the Newcastleton community.”
