POLICE are urging locals to be on their guard against bogus workmen.
It comes after an incident last Friday morning on Liddesdale Road when a man called at an elderly lady’s home claiming to be the gas man.
A spokesperson said: “The occupier told him the property did not have gas at which point the male stated he was there to measure the property next door but had forgotten a pen and paper.
“The occupier, unhappy with the male, closed her door and contacted the police.”
The man spoke with a local accent and is described as 5’6” to 5’10” tall, medium build, short light coloured hair wearing a dark tracksuit with white emblem on the left breast.
Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information connected to this incident, to contact the station on 375051.
