IT was more of the same for the Hawick and Hermitage ward as all three previous councillors were re-elected.
Independent candidate Davie Paterson was returned to the area and promised to “continue his no-nonsense attitude”.
He said: “I promise to work even harder than I have been in the past. I look forward to working with all of the other councillors in the Borders.”
In what was the final result announced from the whole of the Borders, it was revealed there was a turnout of 41.16 per cent, with 34 rejected ballot papers.
Liberal Democrat member and honorary provost, Ron Smith, said: “This has been a very fair contest and I would congratulate my opponents for this and council officers.
“In Hawick and Hermitage and Hawick as a whole we have had a very successful team for the last five years and I look forward to more of that.”
There was similar joy for Conservative candidate George Turnbull. He said: “It’s a great honour to be re-elected as a ward councillor for Hawick and Hermitage.”
