Councillor Davie Paterson will face no further action over the Facebook row during which he called constituents “halfwits, plonkers and muppets”.
Former councillor David Richardson complained to the ethical standards watchdog saying Mr Paterson’s behavior was unnacceptable.
In an email forwarded to the Hawick News this week by Mr Paterson, regulatory services boss Brian Frater told him: “You’ll be pleased to hear you will be getting a letter from the standards commissioner saying he’s not taking the complaint any further.”
Mr Paterson told the Hawick News: “I’m absolutely delighted to see that the Standards Commissioner has looked at all the facts and said I have not committed a breach of the councillors code of conduct. This has caused me a lot of needless distress and worrying about possibly being suspended from doing the job that I love.”
Complainer Davie Richardson said: “I am sure voters will remember this at the 2017 council elections.”
