A temporary one-way order is to be introduced on roads in the Mansfield area on the day of Hawick Sevens, writes Jason Marshall.
An increased level of traffic is anticipated for the Greens’ annual showpiece event on Saturday, April 16, and Scottish Borders Council has moved to allay fears over potential congestion due to the ongoing repair work on a section of Mansfield Road which was damaged during Storm Desmond in early December. The order will come into force at 6am on the day of the tournament and remain in place until midnight.
The direction of traffic will be as follows: Eastfield Road, one way in a northerly direction; Mansfield Gardens, one way in an easterly then southerly direction; and Mansfield Road, one way in a westerly direction.
Local ward member Stuart Marshall says he is extremely disappointed that the road won’t be open in time for the sevens tournament.
He added: “I would urge anyone using the one-way system to do so with great caution as, in my opinion, these back streets were not designed to take such volumes of traffic.”
