Nominations sought for community council

NOMINATIONS are open for the Hawick Community Council election.

And local residents have until 5pm on Tuesday, September 24 to put their name forward to become a community councillor.

There are 15 places available, but should less than eight valid nominations be received a new community council cannot be declared and six months will have to pass before nominations can be called for again.

If 15 valid nominations are received a new community council will be declared on October 2. Should more than 15 nominations be received a ballot will take place.

Nomination forms are available from: Scottish Borders Council contact centre, High Street; Hawick library, North Bridge Street; or by downloading the form from the SBC website.

Completed forms should be returned to Councillor George Turnbull, Returning Officer, c/o Scottish Borders Council, council headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, TD6 0SA.
