Newcastleton’s mobile phone boost

NEWCASTLETON is at the forefront of a mobile phone initiative which will bring a huge boost in coverage to areas which have been difficult to reach in the past.

The village has been chosen from more than 170 rural communities across the UK as one of the first places to trial a ‘community-led network’, which has seen the installation of ‘open femto’ technology at several locations, allowing mobile users onto the femtocell to access the internet when they are in range of the devices.
