LOCAL singer, songwriter and businessman, Alan Brydon received a personal letter of congratulations from the Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg after being guest of honour at the prestigious St Andrews Society of the state of New York’s 255th annual banquet.

Accompanied by his wife Carol, Mr Brydon attended the event in the University Club in Manhattan last Friday night and received a standing ovation for his speech.

The Society counts names such as Andrew Carnegie among the list of past presidents and James Naughtie, presenter of Radio 4’s Today Programme, amongst recent speakers.

Mr Brydon was asked to speak following a successful speech at the Burns Society of New York last year. Following that he was asked to recommend a future speaker, and as a result, Ian Landles will travel to New York in January to deliver the Immortal Memory.
