Local apprentice plasterer Matthew Wainman has teamed up with his peers to land a top industry award.
The 21 year old, who is learning his trade with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA), was part of the winning team of young people from housing associations and co-operatives across Scotland who took part in the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations’ Apprentice Challenge.
Team members were asked to come up with communication strategies to help social landlords tackle problems such as fuel poverty and mental health issues.
Matthew said: “I’m delighted to receive this award. I decided to do the apprenticeship as I wanted to gain a qualification in plastering. I’ve enjoyed learning new skills and the on-the -job training.
“In the future, I’d like to continue working as a plasterer and maybe set up my own business.”
Julia Molloy, SBHA’s chief executive, added: “We’re very proud of Matthew as he has achieved so much. And we’re delighted to see our young people get the recognition that they deserve.”
