LOCAL MP Michael Moore has praised a Hawick textile firm for taking on apprentices.

On a visit last week to Hawick Cashmere’s Trinity Mills, Mr Moore met four young people who have taken advantage of the firm’s apprenticeship programme.

“A successful textile industry is vital to the prosperity of our region and it was heartening to see this flourishing local business training the next generation of textile producers,” said Mr Moore after meeting factory bosses and the young trainees – Ashley Burns, Heather Amos, Hayley McAfee and Michael Knight (all pictured).

“I will continue to campaign to increase apprenticeships across the Borders,” said Mr Moore. “It is absolutely vital for ensuring the next generation of skilled men and women.”
