Councillor Stuart Marshall and several Denholm residents and business owners are calling for an urgent on-site meeting with Scottish Borders Council and SEPA over continued flooding issues in the village.
Speaking to the Hawick News this week, Darren McElrath, who works for Denholm Meet Suppliers, told the Hawick News that they’ve had a few lucky escapes: “The last time two weeks ago, the water was lapping up against the door within three minutes and when cars and lorries go past it makes it worse.
“The drains in Main Street can’t cope with the volume of water from Ashloaning and the Dean Road and it’s only a matter of time before ourselves and others are flooded.”
Mr McElrath added: “We keep on being passed between the council and Scottish Water. It needs to be sorted out.
Councillor Marshall said: “I’m annoyed that this issue is far from being resolved and I have this week called for urgent talks to take place between SBC and Scottish Water and I have been assured that this will happen soon.
“This has gone on far too long with businesses and villagers living on their nerves each time their is persistent rainfall.”
