COUNCILLOR Stuart Marshall has dubbed the war on dog fouling “a waste of money” after hearing that no fines were issued in Hawick in August.

The news was reported during Tuesday night’s community council meeting at which a furious Councillor Marshall revealed that a dog fouling recording sheet showed that no tickets were issued in the region throughout the month.

Quoting senior warden Keith Taylor, who informed councillors that “everyone appears to be picking up”, Councillor Marshall (pictured) blasted the current system.

“These reports are a waste of time and money,” he stated. “It’s high time we stopped bombarding councillors with reports that achieve absolutely nothing, and start to tackle the war on dog fouling in a more serious manner. Repeat offenders deserve to face the full force of the law.”
