Eight local businesses have successfully applied for property-improvement grants under the Scottish Borders Council scheme being supported by Future Hawick, the town’s regeneration body.
Work on each of the projects at Style Ahead, D*fine, Ellava, LA Gems, Eden, Eden for Men, Teviot Wines and Beauty Secrets, which involve improvements to the facades of buildings, will commence shortly with the aim of completion and grant payment by the spring.
The enterprises, which are all located in the Hawick central shopping area, will receive 50% match funding of their proposals up to a maximum of £500.
Commenting on the scheme, Future Hawick chairman Derick Tait told the Hawick News that the initiative was a positive step towards regeneration of the High Street. Businesses and retailers who were prepared to trade in and support the High Street area in difficult times deserved support and were to be encouraged and helped in their efforts.
Mr Tait also revealed that there was scope to extend the scheme if enough interest was shown.
