Letter of concern over GP axe

THE community council is to write to NHS Borders to express its concerns over the decision to axe the GP service at the Community Hospital, writes Jason Marshall.

The issue was raised at last week’s meeting, and chair Marion Short told the Hawick News that the letter would be sent to chief executive Callum Campbell.

Mrs Short said: “Given that Hawick is probably the largest urban community in the Borders, the community council feels that the presence of a doctor at the Community Hospital not only serves the town itself but the surrounding rural area, and the retention of the service would prevent longer queues at accident and emergency and unnecessary visits to Borders General Hospital.”
