Local MSP John Lamont has praised the “hard-working” volunteers and officials who are braced to battle a second night of flooding.
He told the Hawick News: “My thoughts go out to residents and businesses in Hawick who have been affected by this terrible weather.
“Since arriving in Hawick in the early hours of Saturday morning I have seen first hand the hard work of volunteers and officials to support residents who have been evacuated. The response has been fantastic and a credit to Hawick.
“It now looks likely that this will be the worst flooding in Hawick for many years and for this extent of damage to happen so close to Christmas is heartbreaking.”
The Conservative member added that the focus remains on helping those in difficulty and minimising damage to property.
