Lamont’s hint over leader role

HAWICK MSP John Lamont has refused to rule himself out of the race to become the next Scottish Conservative Party leader.

Following the resignation of Annabel Goldie, Mr Lamont, who was re-elected last Friday, said: “The Party needs a new direction. A number of new people have come into power in the last few years and a decision needs to be made, in that will it be someone who has been around for a while or will there be a generation jump?

“I won’t deny that people have approached me with the suggestion to shift to a younger person. I believe I have something to offer.”
