Jury trial for Stirches drug accused

Two men deny the importation of around £7,000 worth of illegal drugs.

Fifty-seven-year-old George Gilmour, of Hugh McLeod Place, and Robert Brown, 25, of Farrier Court, Kelso, appeared on indictment and denied being concerned in the supply of methylethcathinone and possession of the class B drug.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at Farrier Court, Kelso, and Hugh McLeod Place, Hawick, between April 16, 2010, and February 2, 2011.

Both accused will stand trial by jury at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, with a first diet continued until January 30.

A TEENAGER will face trial by jury on a charge of severely injuring another male.

Nineteen-year-old Jarrid Neil of Ruberslaw Road, appeared on indictment accused of assaulting a man by repeatedly punching him on the head and holding him against a car near his home in Ruberslaw Road on March 4.

At Selkirk Sheriff Court he pleaded not guilty to the charge and lodged a special defence of self-defence.

The trial is scheduled for Jedburgh Sheriff Court on January 30.
