The intricately carved walking stick made by well-known local joiner Joe Fraser which was raffled in aid of prostate cancer research has raised almost £1,500.

Depicting the Cornet and followers, the draw was made at Friday’s 1514 dinner and it was won by local man Gid Lumsden.

And speaking this week, big hearted Joe said: “I am delighted that we have managed to raise money for Prostate Cancer Scotland. And it was especially relevant that Gid has suffered from this and made a recovery and many others attending will either have, will get or will have had prostate cancer.”

He added: “Although it was in the paper some folk didn’t know about it and have been making donations since. This has been a real success. We’ve raised some cash for the charity and hopefully have raised awareness of this disease.”
