A LACK of drain covers presented cause for concern to town centre shoppers this week, with pedestrians forced to dodge potentially dangerous holes in the pavement.
Temporary covers made of timber had replaced broken iron drainage covers that had been removed for safety reasons, but the wood was found broken and revealing a dangerous hole. After enquiries by the Hawick News, Scottish Water arranged repaiir work.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We have arranged for one of our network officers to investigate this as a matter of urgency. If necessary we will make any temporary repairs or put in place barriers until a permanent repair is arranged. We apologise to local people for any inconvenience.”
