String Theory, Hawick’s weekly live music event, is set to welcome The Coal Porters and Ivan Drever to the Tower Mill auditorium on Monday night.
Firmly established on the UK and European touring cicuits, The Coal Porters – perhaps best known among Hawick music fans for their ‘Find The One’ album which was released in 2012 – are an acoustic act whose polished yet passionate live show will serve up a generous helping of alt-bluegrass to Teri gig-goers.
The Coal Porters, who have done a live session for the legendary ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, comprise Sid Griffin, formerly of The Long Ryders, on mandolin, Paul Fitzgeraldon banjo, Neil Robert Herd on flatpickin’ guitar, Andrew Stafford on bass, and fiddler Kerenza Peacock.
Ivan Drever, who has recorded a host of albums both solo and with other performers, notably his band Wolfstone, is one of Scotland’s best-known contemporary folk musicians.
Ivan’s live set will feature a complete performance of his latest album, ‘What You Hear’, as well as songs from previous releases such as ‘Keep On Keeping On’, ‘Notes From An Island’ and ‘Bless The Wind’, alongside several as yet unreleased new songs.
Now resident in Norway, Ivan regularly tours Scandinavia, the USA and the UK.
Tickets for the Porters/Drever show, which starts at 7.30pm, are £10 and available from the Heart of Hawick box office on 360688.
