Police are warning of “record river levels” as floods continue to batter the town.
Inspector John Scott told the Hawick News: “Local officers have been working with colleagues from Scottish Borders Council, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue to evacuate properties in Hawick.
“We’re continuing to monitor the adverse weather and will take all the necessary precautions to keep our communities safe.
“Together with our partners we are anticipating potentially record river levels, and are urging people to follow the advice being given to them by all agencies involved in the evacuation process.”
A police spokesperson added: “We’d urge people to only travel if necessary, and check www.scotborders.gov.uk for regular updates.”
