Hawick cop email probe goes to fiscal

AN INVESTIGATION into emails of a “racist and sexist” nature which resulted in a 51-year-old Hawick police officer being suspended, has led to a report being sent to the procurator fiscal.

Nearly one year after the Wilton Hill-based officer was suspended and a further 16 officers – including contables and sergeants – and four civilian staff, also based at the Hawick station, were the subject of “misconduct enquiries”, it has been revealed that a report on the circumstances of the discovery of the emails has now been sent to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “The investigation into this matter is still ongoing and a report has been made to the COPFS for its consideration”.
