A SECTION of the Border Union Railway at Whitrope has been officially reopened.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Waverley Route Heritage Association a short stretch was rebuilt and Sunday saw the first train leave there since it was controversially closed in 1969.

Sunday also marked the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Waverley Route in 1862 and hundreds of people attended a day of events organised to celebrate the occasion.
