Fuel theft ‘upsurge’ in Borthwick Valley

THE theft of fuel and heating oil in the Borthwick Valley area has been described as a problem occurring on an almost daily basis.

Ian Robson, a spokesman for Upper Teviotdale & Borthwick Water Community Council, revealed this week: “There has been a real upsurge in theft of fuel oil from sites and houses, and people are at a loss for what to do next.”

Speaking during the police spotlight at Teviot and Liddesdale Area Committee, he outlined one large theft which cost four local employees a day’s wages. Inspector Paula Clark admitted it was a problem that was occurring throughout the region, but added: “We have an officer specifically analysing these crimes, however, I’d advise people not to hesitate to contact us for security advice.”
