This year’s Summer Festival Flower Princess Brooke Hollett officially opened the Mansfield Bar’s Sunday Club last weekend.

The club consists of several locals who take on sponsored walks for charity throughout the year and also raise funds from domino tournaments.

Speaking to the Hawick News this week, regular at the Mansfield, Terry Palmer, who happens to be Brooke’s grandfather, said: “The Sunday Club has never been officially opened and we thought it would be a great idea for Brooke to come along in her role to open the club. It was a great day and she was quite excited.

“The club holds domino tournaments and any proceeds go to local charities and perhaps twice yearly some of the lads take on a big walking challenge like the Four Peaks to raise cash, and the last time they did one the money went to Help the Heroes.

“It’s all good fun and it is great that local and national charities can benefit from something we get fun out of. I don’t do any of the walking, though. I’m past all of that stuff.”
