THE Proclaimers famously sang about walking 500 miles, but former Redskins player Neil Craggs is preparing to travel more than 250 miles to watch his beloved YM in the Shield final against Lasswade tomorrow.

And he will be joined on the journey by squad members Joe Carmichael and Keith Millar as well as Teri Greg Walker.

The quartet are currently in Sheffield as part of Kevin Inglis’ stag party. They enjoyed the Premier League darts last night and will be out on the town tonight.

But come 7am they will be on the train for Edinburgh as they head to Murrayfield.

Neil said: “I’d never miss it. I would have done everything in my power to get to Murrayfield to support them.”

Neil, who sports a tattoo of the YM badge on his back, was a regular for the Mansfield Haugh outfit from 1997 until 2004, before work commit-ments restricted him to fleeting appearances – his last coming from the bench at Newton Stewart in 2008.

It was because of his job as a fireman in the RAF that he missed out on Murrayfield in 2004. But he is now looking forward to playing his part among the hundreds of supporters set to descend on the capital.

He added: “Due to my job in the armed forces I don’t get to watch them as much as I’d like. All I can say is thank God for the internet so I can keep up to date with everything.

“They’ve a great chance of winning if they play like they have all season.

“Hopefully we’ll be celebrating a win in the clubrooms. It would be a great end to a great season in the club’s history.”
