Ex-teacher dies in Cotswolds crash

A FORMER St Margaret’s school teacher has been killed in a car crash at an accident blackspot in the Cotswolds.

Frances Abbott, who was a catholic church stalwart, was driving a Seat Ibiza car on the A417 at Crickley Hill, near Gloucester, on Wednesday afternoon, when it collided with two other vehicles.

The Hawick News understands that the 62-year old, who lived in the Terraces, had been travelling to visit an aunt.

Although retired from school, she was a key figure teaching the youngsters at Ss Mary & David’s Church, as well as giving Communion to the sick.

A spokesperson for the Buccleuch Street parish said they are devastated. “Father Galbraith received a telephone call at 1 o’clock in the morning with the dreadful news.

“Everyone in the church is absolutely shattered by this,” she said.

Gloucestershire police reported that the accident happened near to the Air Balloon roundabout, prior to the Cold Slad junction. A spokesman added: “The Seat Ibiza was in collision with a VW Golf and then a trailer being drawn by an Isuzu pick-up.”

Mrs Abbott, a mum of two, was airlifted to hospital near Bristol, but later died.

The road was closed for several hours.
