The Yetholm Sinfonia Wind Ensemble are set to get the new Hawick Music Live! season off to a cracking start at Tower Mill next weekend.
Among the soloists taking centre stage on Saturday, September 19, will be Hawick trumpet player and Agar Trust award winner Harry Marshall, and his performance will be complemented by a wide selection of tunes.
Conductor Geoffrey Emerson told the Hawick News: “The concert programme is very varied with Gershwin numbers alongside Holst and Debussy as they’re all good tunes and they give the lie to the perception that classical music is highbrow.
“Many of the pieces will be recognised from popular culture and I hope the audience will enjoy listening to them as much as the musicians enjoy playing them.”
Gary Scott, of Hawick Music Live!, added: “We’re very much looking forward to Yetholm Wind Soloists performing in our first concert and getting our 65th season off to a great start.”
The programme will also include several pieces of music by the likes of Sir Arthur Sullivan, Elgar and Jean Francaix.
Tickets £10 (under-18s free) available from 360688 or at the Tower Mill box office.
