A GENEROUS donation to Hawick News reporter Gavin Gibbon’s charity marathon challenge has certainly hit the right note.

Hawick Sings, which is run by Hawick Callants Club, handed over a cheque for £200 towards Gavin’s fund-raising efforts.

The 33-year-old has challenged himself to complete 12 marathons in 12 months in aid of The Cystic Fibrosis Trust – his six-year-old niece Sophie was born with CF, for which there is currently no cure.

Club president Charlie Oliver said: “The Callants Club is proud to support the bid to complete 12 marathons in 12 months for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

“CF is the most common genetic condition in childhood. Treatment of the condition, previously fatal in early life, has improved greatly over the last few decades and sufferers can now look forward to a greatly improved quality of life as a result of research funded by efforts like this.”

Gavin has previously completed events on a treadmill, at Belvoir, Limassol, Greater Manchester, Edinburgh, Shrewsbury, Tenby and Northumberland, with four more marathons to go, including Loch Ness at the end of the month and Bournemouth the week after.

He added: “I am eternally grateful to the Callants Club for this fantastic donation. Their support, and the support from everyone, means a lot.”
