A TOTAL of five dog owners were issued with fines by the town’s community wardens last month.
Last Tuesday night’s community council meeting heard that fixed penalty fines for dog fouling were handed out in Victoria Road, Fraser Avenue, Hillend Drive, Burnfoot Road and the Waverley Walk. Wardens also reported that they dealt with five complaints over a build-up of rubbish, and six jobs relating to antisocial behaviour.
The Scottish Borders Council wardens – who cover the Teviot and Liddesdale area – were also contacted following two acts of vandalism, and three reports of problems caused by boy racers.
Warden Colin Mitchell added: “We also got in touch with Hawick High School with the names of two pupils who dropped litter.
“But we are pleased to have seen a decline in the number of school kids in the Howegate.”
