Denholm drug man's guilty plea

Police found six cannabis plants, worth about £150 each, being cultivated in a house in Denholm.

William McConnell, 24, of Main Street, Denholm, admitted being concerned in the production of an illegal drug at his home on September 20.

He also admitted possession of 8 worth of cannabis resin, and having Ecstasy worth about 3.

Depute fiscal Juliet Petrusev said police searched the house at about 9am and found six plants in the accused's bedroom, along with a lighting system, fan, thermometers, transformers and timers.

"He told police he was growing the cannabis for his own personal use and said he smoked about 20 worth a day and had been growing it for about six weeks," said Miss Petrusev.

Sentence was deferred until February 14 for reports.

A 21-year-old who committed a breach of the peace, was fined 100.

David Gray, of High Street, admitted disorderly conduct in Dovecote Street, on April 21.
