Date for hall meeting to discuss refurbishment

DENHOLM: The village hall has been awarded funding through the Climate Challenge Fund for the first phase of the refurbishment, and any member of the community who would like to become involved is asked to attend the next meeting on May 1 at 7pm.

THERE are plans for a community Jubilee celebration and big lunch on June 3, and those interested in submitting ideas and gettting involved are asked to attend a meeting in the hall on May 23 at 6pm.

IN THE absence of Minto WRI president Mary Beck, vice-president Chris Nicol welcomed members to the April meeting, and introduced Joyce Tinlin, whose subject was ‘Sing it with flowers’. Joyce made six lovely flower arrangements, giving useful tips as she went along, while also singing songs inspired by the shape or design of the container. Afterwards, several of the arrangements were raffled. The competition for a decorated egg produced some creative entries, and the resuls were – 1, Pat Jardine; 2, Win Nichol; 3, Sheena Graham; 4, Enid Cruckshank. The winner of the small Border tart competition was Marion Miller, who will go on to enter on in the federation competition at the spring rally.

Minto and Bedrule WRIs are running a tombola stall at the May fair in Denholm on May 26, and items would be welcome at the next Minto WRI meeting on May 9.

ROBERTON: WRI president Margaret Anderson welcomed members to the April meeting, and introduced Tracy Murray, who works at Fun 2 Do, and gave a very interesting talk about all the different colours that are in this season. Tracy, who was accompanied by her little helper, daughter Ailidh, then showed a varietyy of beautiful garments and toys she had made in these wools. She also brought along lots of patterns, some about crochet. The vote of thanks was given by Betty Hopkins. Competition for two pieces of flapjack – 1, Pearl Anderson; 2, Alison Riddell. Raffle – Kathleen Jackson. The sales table realised £20.80. 200 Club (April) – 1, Margaret Anderson; 2, F. Cattanash; 3, R. Kirkpatrick.

Next meeting on May 9 will feature a talk by Marjorie Gavin, with a competition for a side plate, and a sales table.
